Clinical Evaluation of Peripartal Hysterectomy

Abstract
Postpartum hemorrhage is one of the major causes of maternal mortalilty and sometimes hyterectomy is required.
Peripartal hysterectomy may be followed by morbidity and complications.
A total of 43 patients underwent peripartal hysterectomy at Il Sin Christian Hospital over a 5-year periord between 1989-1993.
The results were as follows.
Peripartal hysterectomy was performed in 43 of 48, 156 deliveries, the incidence of which was 0.09%.
The indication of periparatal hysterectomy was 49.1% in uterine atomy, folowed by palcenta accreta(37.2%), uterine repture (14%), extension of the cesarean incision into the uterine vessel(2.3%), abdominal pregnancy(2.3%), and cervical
cancer(2.3%).
Maternal death was one case in amnionic fluid embolism.
The first operative mobidity occurred in 18 patients: bladder injury in 3 cases, febrile mobidity in 14 cases, DIC in 6 cases and opreation wound disruption, urinary tract infection, pneumonia, and renal failure and pulmonary edema in 1 case
each.
